The beauty of berners is striking. Strong and easy-going dog, berner could also been a good watch-dog. But best is their character: gentle, calm and affectionate. He’s a dog for family, excellent with children and affective support for the elderly ones.
ORIGIN
Bernese Moutain dogs are working dogs from Switzerland whose origins are not known. The legend that links them to the ancient Roman molossis is not supported and we can only affirm the existence on the Swiss territory of a resistant, large, working breed.
In the second half of the 1800s, in the farms around Berna, the farmers used these strong dogs, often tricolor, for the watch, to accompany cows for short distance, or to pull wheelbarrow to transport milk.
It was at the beginning of 1900s that, departing from best specimen, it was begun to breed in purity and then was attributed the actual name "Berner Sennenhund".
CHARACTER
Berners are usually a very balanced and easy dog to manage. He has a good territorial instinct, so he could be a good keeper that will bark to signal the arrival of extraneous, but having a very sociable nature, he will never be aggressive..
Selected for helping and to cohabit with Berna’s farmer, he loves to feel member of the family, he is sweet and tolerant with children, and he generally lives pacifically with other animals. He recalls our attention giving the leg, or pushing owner’s hands or arms by head, claiming caresses and embraces.
