This is a photographic study of puppy’s growth from birth to 60 days, to show this important period and especially to underline the exceptionality and the delicacy of growth period.

Photos are more effective to emphasize the speed of growth.

The four puppies of this study, a female and three males middly weighed at birth 600 grams and after 60 days, you see them with their owners, they have reached middly 9 Kg.

The normally growth of litters goes from the initial 35 daily grams up to the over 100 grams in the fourth weeks of life and reach 250 grams a day in eighth weeks.

Pups have their maximum increase of weight in the first months of life and from birth to adult age the weight of our bernese increases 90-100 times.

This rapid rhythm of growth increases the risk of muscolo-skeletal pathologies, multi- factors deseases, in which overnutrition in juvenile age is one of the instigating causes.

During bony growth overfeeding can cause  incorrect deviations of the limbs.

A diet balanced during the growth represents the first form of prevention towards these illnesses.

Exercise in the first months of life must be not excessive and it must be gradual. Over-exercise young puppies can determine muscular stretchings and it can contribute to a not correct development of joints and bones.
